  • Overview

A white 2021 Chevy Colorado WT is angled left.

For some people, the size and power of a full-size truck like the Chevy Silverado is a great choice, especially for folks with demanding needs for their pickup. But for many truck fans, a midsize option is the perfect way to get the fun and functionality of a truck without going with something so large it can threaten to take over your entire life. The 2021 Chevy Colorado is one of the finest midsize trucks on the market, with a terrific selection of engine options, great available features, and a design that is ideally suited for both work and play.

There are three different engines to choose from with the Colorado, so you can get exactly the right amount of power for what you need. This includes a powerful Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine that delivers incredible torque and impressive fuel efficiency to help you get any job done. While it might not be able to compete with the muscle of a full-size model, the Chevy Colorado still delivers up to 7,700 lbs of towing capacity and up to 1,550 lbs of maximum payload capacity. And despite its modest size, you still get plenty of options for bed and cab configurations, with spacious crew cab models and nearly 50 cu.ft. of total available cargo capacity.

With its legendary ZR2 trim, the 2021 Chevy Colorado continues to be one of the best options available if you want a truck for going off-road. With an off-road appearance package, off-road-tuned suspension, increased ground clearance, and a Multimatic DSSV damping system, the ZR2 is the perfect option for hitting the trail. Whatever you are looking for in a midsize truck, the Colorado has you covered for work or play. Come join us at Blossom Chevrolet today to find out more and see the impressive Chevy Colorado for yourself.

  • Power/ Off-Road

There are three engines available for the 2021 Chevy Colorado, which is an impressive number for a midsize truck. Some manufacturers tend to skimp out on the engine options with midsize models compared to their full-size offerings, but Chevrolet does no such thing. You can enjoy the more modest size of the Colorado and still get the right engine with the power you need.

    Two Gasoline Engines

The 2021 Chevy Colorado comes standard with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that offers 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. There is also an available 3.6L V6 engine with an 8-speed automatic that delivers 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque for the most horsepower. The WT and LT trims come with the 2.5L engine standard and the 3.6L available, while the higher Z71 and ZR2 trims feature the 3.6L engine standard.

    Optional Diesel

If you are looking for a diesel engine, then you are in luck. The 2021 Chevy Colorado has an available 2.8L Duramax Turbo-Diesel 4-cylinder engine that provides 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque for incredible performance. This comes paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and it is available on the LT trim or the ZR2 off-road-focused model. The added torque makes the diesel engine the best choice for maximum towing, and it delivers the best fuel economy for the Colorado.

    Off-Road

The 2021 Chevy Colorado is one of the best trucks around for going off-road – for many people, the Colorado has been their favorite choice for a trail pickup for decades. A major part of this is due to the ZR2 off-road trim, which gives you a number of features specifically designed for hitting the trail. For starters, the ZR2 comes with 4WD standard, and it is available with either the 3.6L V6 engine or the 2.8L Turbo-Diesel.

What really sets the ZR2 apart, however, is a number of additional features. These include an off-road appearance package, a transfer-case shield, and an off-road suspension with a Multimatic DSSV damping system to keep you comfortable and in control on rough terrain. The ZR2 also features driver-selectable full-locking front and rear differentials, red recovery hooks, and increased ground clearance to let you dominate the trail.

    The Bison

There is also a ZR2 Bison model available, which was designed in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) to offer an unparalleled off-road experience. The Bison features an AEV front bumper with winch provisions, AEV hot-stamped boron steel skid plates to protect the underside, AEV-designed 17-inch wheels, and more. All of this comes together to make for a truck that is destined to dominate any trail you set before it.

  • Performance

To us, half the fun of owning a truck is being able to get the most out of it by loading up the bed or hauling something behind you. While a full-size model is going to be best for really high towing capacities, the 2021 Chevy Colorado can still manage an impressive amount of weight. The maximum capacity will depend on the configuration and engine that you pick.

    Plenty of Payload

In terms of payload, the Colorado can handle up to 1,550 lbs of maximum weight in the cab and bed. Keep in mind that this refers to the total weight of all passengers and cargo, so the number of people riding along with you will impact how much you can load up into the bed. To get the most payload overall, look for a model with a 3.6L V6 engine, 4WD, and a crew cab with a short box.

    Tons of Towing

Towing capacities on the Colorado can vary quite a lot, depending on a wide range of factors. The overall configuration you choose has an impact on your towing limit, both in terms of the bed length and the cab size. But for towing capacity, the engine you choose has the greatest effect on what kind of towing you can get, so keep that in mind.

For example, the standard 2.5L 4-cylinder engine can only offer up to 3,500 lbs of maximum towing capacity. By comparison, the available 3.6L V6 engine with a trailering package can get up to 7,000 lbs of maximum towing. However, for the greatest towing, the available diesel engine can get up to 7,700 lbs of towing capacity with the right configurations. So if you know how much weight you need to be able to tow, then it is easy to choose the right setup to give you the kind of power you require.

  • Interior

The black interior is shown from the passanger side in a 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2.

Although what you get inside the 2021 Chevy Colorado depends on the trim level and options you choose, even the standard setup is comfortable and impressive. The starting trim, the WT, includes a standard 7-inch infotainment display with Bluetooth connectivity, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 6-speaker sound system. It has vinyl seating, with a 4-way power driver’s seat and 2-way manual front-passenger seat, plus a rear folding bench seat and carpeted floor covering. You get a standard 3-inch monochromatic driver display and single-zone climate control.

    Z71 Interior Options

If you choose the higher Z71 trim, then you get a number of impressive upgrades in terms of both luxury and technology. The Z71 includes an 8-inch HD infotainment display with voice recognition, HD radio, and an available 7-speaker Bose premium sound system. It comes with cloth and leatherette seating, featuring a 6-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar control, as well as heated driver and front-passenger seats. You also get a leather-wrapped, heated steering wheel with mounted controls, a 4-inch color driver information display, cruise control, and automatic climate control.

The Z71 comes with other convenience features, too, such as remote keyless entry and remote start with the key fob. You get a wireless charging pad for compatible devices inside the Z71, with front USB data ports, rear charging-only USB ports, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Navigation for the infotainment system is available, as are additional front inputs for audio and SD cards, along with all-weather floor mats and liners that are perfect for rain or snow.
