  • Overview

A blue 2023 Chevy Trailblazer is shown angled left.

Chevrolet’s Trailblazer is a sporty subcompact crossover that fits into Chevy’s lineup between cars like the Malibu and mid-size SUVs like the Blazer. This size puts it in a sweet spot: it’s more affordable and easier to find a parking spot than larger models while still offering the spacious interior and heightened driver’s seat that SUV drivers are looking for. The 2023 Chevy Trailblazer retains the performance and practical features of previous model years while adding some new choices when it comes to style, like three new paint colors and the option to get an iridescent pearl tricoat on the roof, creating an eye-catching two-toned design.

In addition to performance and style, the Trailblazer offers plenty of comfort. Its high roof and ample leg room make the cabin spacious enough to accommodate adults in both the front and back seats. And drivers and passengers alike can enjoy the infotainment system, which is sure to keep boredom at bay even on the longest of road trips. Whether you’re looking to go on an epic adventure or want to drive around town in style, the Trailblazer has plenty to offer.

  • Cargo Space

A brown 2023 Chevy Trailblazer is shown parked in a desert.

With the rear seats folded flat, the Trailblazer offers 54.4 cu.ft. of cargo volume, giving you plenty of room to load up with boxes, luggage, furniture, or whatever else you need to transport. In addition to the back row of seats, the front passenger seat can also fold completely flat, making it possible to transport items up to 8.5 feet long without having anything strapped in and hanging out the back. Lighting for the cargo compartment is standard across all trims, so you can easily see what you’re doing day or night.

To help keep the cargo area clean and organized, Chevy has a number of available accessories designed for the Trailblazer. There’s a mat that keeps the back area protected, a liner that extends to the backs of the rear seats for even more coverage, and a cover that blocks your items from view, which can help to deter thieves. To make smaller items easier to keep track of, you can get a collapsible organizer with multiple compartments that can be tied down to the vehicle’s anchors in order to keep it in place while en route. Finally, there’s a vertical cargo net that’s great for keeping things like soccer balls or yoga mats handy.

    Keyless Technology

If you’ve ever been carrying so many grocery bags or packages that you have trouble reaching for your keys or opening the trunk of your car, then you can make good use of some of Chevy’s high-tech features. Keyless open is standard on most trim levels, meaning you don’t need to dig the key out of your pocket to unlock the doors. And with the available hands-free liftgate, you can access the cargo area without lifting a finger. All you have to do is kick your foot out near the sensor while the key is in your possession, and the liftgate will open itself up. You can customize the height it opens to, so it won’t be out of reach when you’re ready to close it. Plus, a Chevrolet logo is projected onto the ground in the area the sensor can read, giving you a clear visual of where you need to kick, so you’re never left guessing.

  • Trims

A red 2023 Chevy Trailblazer is shown parked on the side of a city street.

The 2023 Trailblazer is available in four different trim levels. The LS is the most basic option and is a good value for those on a tight budget. The LT comes standard with more features like keyless start, cruise control, and heated mirrors. There are also some features like a heated steering wheel, automatic climate control, and cabin humidity sensors that are available as optional add-ons for the LT but unavailable on the LS. The RS is sleek and sporty, while the ACTIV is more durable and built for off-road capability.

    Engine Options

One big difference between the trims is what’s under the hood. The EcoTec 1.2L Turbo engine comes standard on the LS and LT. It provides up to 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque and can only be paired with front-wheel drive. The EcoTec 1.3L Turbo brings the stats up to a max of 155 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque, plus it can support both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. This one comes standard on the RS and ACTIV trims, is available on the FWD version of the LT, and always comes standard if you upgrade to AWD.

    RS And ACTIV Trims

The RS and ACTIV trims both come standard with an efficient dual-outlet exhaust with polished tips that gives the rear exterior a nice, symmetrical look. They also have standard trailering equipment, which allows you to tow up to 1,000 lbs. Finally, both have LED tail lamps, which are nice and bright and last longer than traditional bulbs.

The ACTIV trim features a functional skid plate that protects the underbody of the vehicle so you can safely navigate rocky off-road terrain. It also has off-road suspension tuning, which helps keep the ride smooth for the driver and passengers even if you hit a few bumps. Finally, a set of 17” sport terrain tires give you the grip you need to conquer any adventure.

Meanwhile, the RS is loaded with unique style. It comes equipped with 18” high gloss black aluminum wheels, as well as black Chevy bowtie emblems on the front and back. These details can be paired with an available mosaic black metallic roof to give the exterior a sharp, cohesive look, with the black accents blending in with or offering a contrast to your body color of choice.

  • Technology

A person is shown using CarPlay in a 2023 Chevy Trailblazer.

From infotainment to modern safety features, the 2023 Trailblazer has plenty of cool tech onboard. Chevrolet’s Infotainment 3 Plus system is standard across all trim levels, giving you a color touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, and the ability to use voice commands for functions on compatible phones, no matter what. Upgrade to the ACTIV or RS trim, or add on a few optional features or packages, and you can unlock even more convenient capabilities.

When it comes to playing audio, whether it's music, podcasts, or audiobooks, you have plenty of options. You can hook up a device through a USB or aux port or go wireless with a Bluetooth connection. Unlike many other systems, you can connect up to two active devices at a time via Bluetooth, which should come in handy on road trips. However you choose to connect, your audio will be played through either four or six speakers, depending on trim level. On the ACTIV and RS, you have the option to upgrade to a Bose premium seven-speaker setup that should satisfy even the most discerning audiophile.

If you add the Technology Package (available for the ACTIV and RS trims), you can get even more useful features. Wireless charging lets you power up your devices without any cables, an SD card reader gives you another option for hooking up your media to the vehicle’s interface, and a SiriusXM trial subscription gives you access to tons of music on the go. The package also upgrades several existing features, which include the rear vision camera being replaced with an HD version. The touchscreen gains an extra inch, and instead of the regular version, you’ll get Adaptive Cruise Control, which uses sensors to react to the vehicle in front of you, slowing down and speeding back up as necessary rather than just maintaining a consistent speed.

    Safety Technology

When it comes to safety features, Chevy’s Safety Assist suite comes standard on all Trailblazers. Chevy Safety Assist includes:

    • Forward Collision Alert, which warns you when you’re about to hit another vehicle or obstacle in front of you.
    • Automatic Emergency Braking and Front Pedestrian Braking, which automatically apply the brakes (or supplement manual braking) to avoid hitting another vehicle, obstacle, or pedestrian.
    • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, which helps prevent you from drifting out of your lane on a highway or freeway.
    • Following Distance Indicator, which lets you know how much distance (measured in seconds) there is between you and the vehicle in front of you.
    • Intellibeam High Beam Assist, which automatically turns the high beams on and off, responding to changing light and traffic conditions.

An additional Driver Confidence Package is available on all trims except the LS. This package includes:

    • Rear Park Assist, which uses ultrasonic sensors to detect objects behind you and warn you when you’re getting too close.
    • Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which helps you back out of a parking space safely by monitoring cross traffic and warning you if a vehicle is coming.
    • Blind Zone Alert and Lane Change Alert, which use radar sensors and warning lights built into the side-view mirrors to detect and warn you about vehicles currently in your blind zone and fast-moving vehicles that are about to enter your blind zone.
