Our Expectations for the 2025 Chevy Suburban

The 2024 Chevy Suburban is presently on the market, but it will soon be replaced by the 2025 Chevy Suburban; you might be wondering what its changes will be and how they’ll impact what you’re looking for in a full-size SUV. We’d like to detail those differences, covering some of its brand-new tech as well as some of the features in its trims, its all-new interior, and the revamped elements of its exterior.

From the start, the trim lineup has not changed, nor has the engine lineup, but it’s how this model performs and what’s available within its trims that has changed. Brand-New Exterior Elements

There were a lot of big and little changes made for the new model year Suburban compared to the outgoing model year. If style is a big lure for you as an SUV shopper, then you will love the fact that the 2025 Suburban is oozing with style. This starts with the all-new front fascia overhaul, including all-new daytime running lights and fog lights, with a technical construction consisting of copious lines and angles.

The 2025 Suburban also features the all-new signature walk-up lighting effects as part of the new daytime running lamp structure and a bold new grille design. The 2025 Suburban also has working side air vents for improved aerodynamics. There are slight changes to the front bumper as well, with an aluminum strip along the lower bumper of select trims.

The front fascia of the 2024 Chevy Suburban is very similar, but it features a slightly different look, mostly in line with the early fourth-generation Chevy Silverado 1500. The C-style design of the daytime running lamps is still present, but the running lamps under the hood are nowhere to be seen. The functional side air vents are also present, but they aren’t as aggressive on the 2024 Suburban as they are on the 2025 model year. There is also a slightly different chrome lining at the bottom of the bumper compared to the thin aluminum lining on the 2025 model for the upper-end trims.

The exterior also has a few other slight differences that are notable between the two models. For instance, the rear fascia of the 2025 Suburban has an alternative stylistic design with the trimming and the exhaust tips. Instead of the rounded staggered tips of the quad exhaust that extend from the rear of the 2024 model, the 2025 Suburban has staggered square tips for the quad exhaust. The square exhaust tip design definitely fits in line with the hard, sharp edges of the exterior line flow present on the 2025 Suburban.

There are some differences in wheel sizes, too. The 2024 Suburban, for instance, has wheel designs available from 18 to 22 inches. The 2025 Suburban has wheel size options and some new designs as large as 24 inches for select trims.

A Revamped Interior

The differences between the 2024 and 2025 Suburbans extend beyond the exterior; there are also various interior changes. One of the big changes with the interior is with the infotainment and console stack. The 2024 Suburban has two separate digital displays on the dashboard, which include the digital driver display and either an 8.0- or 10.2-inch HD touchscreen. The controls and convenience features for the 2024 Suburban’s interior are spread across a center vertical stack with plenty of knobs and buttons.

The 2025 Suburban has a more unified digital display setup with an 11.0-inch digital driver information screen, and a standard 17.7-inch HD touchscreen that is slightly canted with more streamlined buttons and control configurations made easily accessible. In addition to the screen displays being larger for the 2025 Suburban, the infotainment setup is the same across the entire trim line. There is also a more ergonomic design for the dashboard, as well as all-new material layouts and designs within the interior to create a more comforting and inviting environment.

Modified Powertrain Capabilities

The changes between the 2024 and 2025 Suburban in their powertrains and performance aren’t huge, but they are significant for the people who care about minutiae. Both vehicles still have six trims—the LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country—and both are still available with one of three powertrains: the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8, the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8, and the 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel six-cylinder.

Now, while the trims and engines are the same, there is a change in the output of one of the engines. The 3.0-liter Duramax has been buffed up for the 2025 model year; so, instead of being 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque like it is for the 2024 model, the 2025 model outputs 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the slight buff in performance, there are also some minor differences in the suspension.

Both the 2024 Suburban and the 2025 Suburban offer Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride Adaptive Suspension as available options. However, the engineers did some fine-tuning of the 2025 Suburban to improve the multi-link independent rear suspension for improved handling and stability on the road. So, there are improvements to the overall handling and responsiveness of the 2025 Suburban when it comes to how it performs on the road, in addition to the buff to the Duramax output.

Reliable Safety Tech

The 2024 Chevy Suburban comes fully equipped with a lot of great safety features, and the 2025 Chevy Suburban will also come equipped with a lot of great safety features. Even more, some of the features have been enhanced for the new model year, such as the improvements to the driver alert and awareness systems, like interior motion detection, 360-degree camera systems, and crash and security recording systems.

Two other neat features for the 2025 Suburban in the safety and tech department include the AutoSense power liftgate—which can sense your presence when the key fob is in close proximity behind the vehicle—and the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, which is increasingly prominent on select Chevy models and trims. While the hands-free power liftgate is available on the 2024 Suburban by putting your foot under the rear bumper, being able to have the liftgate open without doing anything but standing close to it is a neat tech improvement.

Also, the inclusion of Super Cruise gives technophiles something new to indulge in when it comes to relaxing while driving by letting the vehicle do most of the actual driving. This further enhances the Suburban from both a drivability and security perspective.

Considering a 2024 or 2025 Suburban?

Even with many of the new features made available for the 2025 Suburban, it doesn’t mean that the 2024 Suburban still isn’t a worthwhile full-size SUV. Of course, it all depends on what you’re looking for out of the vehicle and why.
