That’s why many local drivers recommend budget-friendly options like the Chevy Malibu and the Honda Accord. The 2024 Chevy Malibu vs 2024 Honda Accord is the most recent edition of an ongoing rivalry in the midsize sedan market. Both brands have a fantastic long-running reputation for quality and reliability, but most of us can only choose one. So, which one is a good deal? Which one provides the best overall value?

For the 2024 model year, Honda only offers these two trims with a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine. The rest of the lineup is powered by an Atkinson-Cycle 2.0-L 4-cylinder engine. That means that they are hybrid vehicles. We’ll stick to all traditional gasoline-powered vehicles to keep this a direct comparison.

The 2024 Malibu is also powered by a 1.5L turbocharged traditional gasoline engine, and the two vehicles offer very similar power and performance. Chevy Malibu drivers can appreciate 28 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway, while the Accord provides a comparable 29 MPG on city streets and 37 MPG on the highway. The good news is that both Malibu and Accord drivers will likely spend similarly low amounts at the gas pump.

Impressive Value and Reliability

A reasonable price is one thing, but true value means getting more for your money. The 2024 Chevy Malibu is affordable and economical, but it’s also a great value. The 2024 Malibu is offered in four trims: LS, RS, 1LT, and 2LT. All Malibus include a fairly robust set of standard features, including an 8-inch color touchscreen that coordinates the infotainment system. This connects drivers with features like wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto connectivity, and available Alexa Built-In.

The Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver assistance technology is also on board every Malibu model. This includes Forward Collision Alert with Following Distance Indicator and Automatic Emergency Braking, all of which work together to keep drivers aware of potential front collisions. Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning are helpful when navigating traffic on 1-465, and IntelliBeam auto high beam headlamps are convenient when winding your way down backroads after dark. Rear Park Assist and Rear Vision Camera are also standard on the Malibu, helping drivers take in all their surroundings in busy places like parking lots and farmer’s markets.

The 2024 Honda Accord is offered in just two all-gasoline trims: the LX and the EX. These are also the lowest two trims in the Accord lineup. The Accord’s infotainment system is operated via a standard 7-inch color touchscreen. While the Accord is offered with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless compatibility is not even available at this trim level. Similarly, Google and Alexa built-in features are not available on either the LX or EX.

The Honda Sensing set of driver assistance equipment keeps up with Chevy’s safety suite. Standard features don’t differ too much from the Chevy Safety Assist package. The Collision Mitigation Braking System and Forward Collision Warning protect against collisions in a similar way to the Chevy Safety Assist’s Automatic Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Alert System. The Road Departure Mitigation System and Lane Departure Warning serve the same purpose as Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, as well. The Accord has a few extras, like Adaptive Cruise Control with Traffic Jam Assist, but keep in mind that these extra features come with a heftier price tag.

Unique Features

The top trims are usually where we see more cutting-edge features. These are the showpieces for the automotive makers, demonstrating the newest and most innovative options they have available.

Chevy offers three available special editions for the 1LT and 2LT trims that showcase the Malibu’s aerodynamic good looks. The Midnight Edition gets stylish with 19-inch Black-painted aluminum wheels, a blacked-out grille with a dark chrome surround, and black bowtie emblems and Malibu badges against a Mosaic Black Metallic exterior. The Sport Edition offers similar black features with a body color of your choice, while the Redline Edition adds red outlines and accents to the black wheels and grille.

Other standard features for 1LT and 2LT drivers include heated front seats for cozy drives, dual-zone automatic climate control for comfort in any weather, and a dual-pane power sunroof for more airflow in the cabin. 2LT drivers also enjoy standard wireless charging, a heated steering wheel, and heated and ventilated front seats.

The 2024 Accord’s highest gas-powered trim is the EX. The EX offers a few nice features, like heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and dual-zone climate control. The EX trim also offers a power moonroof and an updated audio system, though the enhanced 12.3-inch touchscreen remains just out of grasp on the Sport Hybrid trim. However, the LX trim is priced higher than the Malibu LS and RS, and the base EX trim’s price is topped only by the Malibu 2LT. Drivers should expect more for the price of the Accord.
